WITH sport fast becoming more scientific, local administrators have given the Sport Leaders Institute of Zimbabwe their full backing for the role they are playing to develop the sector.

SLIZ have regularly held workshops and courses for sport leaders, offering them a platform for continuous education and enlightening them on the virtues of doing sport well.

The institution is scheduled to hold the sixth edition of the annual summer camp in Nyanga between November 30 and December 2, where more than 300 delegates are expected to attend.

And, given the consistency and the way the various SLIZ symposiums have transformed the ways in which sport leaders conduct their work, administrators have come out all praises for the organisation and the upcoming seminar.

Harare City Football Club chairman Alois Masepe, a development proponent said SLIZ have worked hard over the years to try and address some of the anomalies in terms of managing sport.

Masepe’s club sent their marketing manager Osborne Maranda for the International Sports Management course held by SLIZ in conjunction with United States’ West Virginia University in September.

The Sunshine Boys chairman has given SLIZ the thumbs up for their work, hinting that they could also be sending participants in the forthcoming summer camp.

“We have always been calling for a culture of doing sport well for the benefit of the country and it is refreshing to see that there are players in the industry who are so dedicated to address some of the burning issues in the circles.

“Sport is becoming more scientific and as a country we need to move with the times, so speed is always crucial when it comes to matters like these.

“We need dedicated organisations like SLIZ to help address some of those issues. Most sport leaders do believe in doing well in sport as opposed to doing sport well, hence they end up engaging in unorthodox activities.

“But, SLIZ have come in handy, addressing those issues and giving them all the attention needed.”

Dynamos secretary-general Webster Maraechera echoed Masepe’s sentiments and urged sport leaders to attend SLIZ seminars if they are to become better administrators.

“One would think they know until they attend one of the SLIZ camps. It is during that time when administrators begin to know what their real responsibilities are.”
