A Harare lawyer has been arrested on forgery and theft of trust property charges involving an undisclosed amount of  money. Taurai Simbarashe of Tsaurai, Tafirei and Chikwai Legal Practitioners was arrested on Monday in Harare. It is alleged he was approached by someone who wanted a stand in Tynwald South in 2005.

He allegedly lured the person into believing he was working with Select Housing Trust, a non-existent firm. Simbarashe allegedly forged Harare City Council documents in an effort to make his “client” believe that Select Housing Trust existed.

It is further alleged that in 2011 there was a wrangle over a stand he had “sold” another unsuspecting person and Simbarashe forged High Court documents to “clear the issue”.

On theft of trust property, Simbarashe allegedly withdrew an undisclosed amount of money from the law firm he worked for, claiming that it was going to their clients and other business partners.

He allegedly converted the money to his own use. Simbarashe appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court on Thursday and was remanded in custody to Monday for bail application.
