Government has lavished praises on health care workers for the way they have responded to pandemics and natural disasters, saying their welfare will be improved and prioritised.

This was said here by Vice President and Minister of Health and Child Care Dr Constantino Chiwenga on his tour of Manicaland.

Speaking to health care workers at Chimanimani district hospital this afternoon, VP Chiwenga said:

“I feel honoured to be accorded this opportunity here today, to share some moments with health care personnel, patients and the people of Chimanimani in general.

“Though my visit to Chimanimani is multi-pronged, my tour of Chimanimani Rural Hospital is purposed to facilitate an interface with my fellow countrymen and also assess the state of the district’s medical infrastructure, equipment and general preparedness to deal with diseases, pandemics and affects of disasters such as floods and strong winds.”

He said : “I want to recognise the selfless dedication to duty and sacrifices by our frontline workers, and particularly so, our health care workers, stationed in Government, council, mission-run, private medical institutions in the country as well as the community health care workers.

“Their gallantry, in the work of marauding Covid-19 pandemic and other threats to public health is applauded. My ministry is seized with challenges they confront on a daily basis.

“The Government will continue to review their conditions of service from time to time and also address shortfalls of commuter transport and personal protective equipment among other areas.

“Regarding diet, my ministry directed that all medical institutions to establish nutritional gardens and canteens for both staff and patients.

“The welfare of health care workers remains central in all my ministry’s endeavours,” said VP Chiwenga.

The hospital here told the VP that they have challenges of ambulance service, and he immediately activate systems in his ministry to deliver an ambulance at the institution immediately and its now on its way.
