Gutu RDC commits vehicle fleet to Cyclone Idai

Masvingo Bureau
Gutu Rural District Council has committed its entire fleet to assist in transporting donations to areas affected by Cyclone Idai in the province.

The corporate world and individual well-wishers have been complementing Government efforts to help the flood victims by donating materially and financially towards their cause.

Acting district administrator for Gutu Ms Chiedza Tafirei on Wednesday applauded the local authority for volunteering to ferry aid to disaster-hit families.

“The donations, which include mealie-meal, clothes, tents, blankets and other foodstuffs are still coming in and council deserves a pat on the back for agreeing to transport the donations to the victims,” she said.

“The council will continue working round the clock to make sure once aid is donated it gets to the affected families as quickly as possible.”

Traditional leaders in the district paid tribute to Gutu RDC and Government through the Department of Civil Protection for responding to the calamity.

Gutu West National Assembly member Cde John Paradza pledged to purchase building materials to help the affected families to rebuild their houses.

Cde Paradza said the materials will be distributed to victims via the CPU.

The cyclone claimed five lives throughout Masvingo and left nearly 300 homeless out of the cumulative 5 000 who were affected.
