LONDON. — Arsenal and Tottenham target Alvaro Morata has opened the door on a move to the Premier League by admitting he would be prepared to leave Real Madrid.Arsene Wenger has long been an admirer of Morata and the Arsenal manager’s need to bring in extra firepower is more serious now following injuries to Nicklas Bendtner and Theo Walcott.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is determined to keep Morata at the Bernabeu but the player wants more first-team opportunities after starting the majority of games on the bench.

He said: ‘It’s important to have a proper role in the team. I’ve been at Real Madrid my whole life and I’ve been a Real Madrid fan since I was a boy. I will be all my life but it’s important to have an important role.

‘If the moment comes that I don’t, I will look at other options. Staying at Real Madrid is complicated.  Playing five or 10 minutes is okay if you accept it. You have the chance to get on the pitch and try to change a game in a short space of time. Every minute in football is gold.’
Spurs are also keeping a close eye on Morata’s situation while Arsenal remain in contact with the Spanish giants.

It will take a £1.7million loan fee to sign the 21-year-old but Ancelotti said this week there will be no comings or goings during the transfer window.

He said: ‘Morata is an important player and I want him to stay. If he’s not comfortable then maybe we could loan him out next year. For now, no-one is going.’

Wenger, who has been offered Salomon Kalou and Dimitar Berbatov, would prefer a short-term solution to their striker problems this month having lost Walcott for the rest of the season and Bendtner. Top scorer Olivier Giroud has also missed the last couple of games with an ankle problem.

The Gunners are willing to make a sizeable expenditure if one of their priority targets becomes available. Mario Mandzukic, Diego Costa, Jackson Martinez, Edin Dzeko and Wayne Rooney are among the club’s preferred options. — Mailonline
