Television reality show “Green Studio” has stepped up its campaign to raise awareness on environmental issues that are related to the access of clean energy with a view to shift from the use of grid electricity to other alternatives. Clean energy is heat and electricity produced from sources like the sun and biomass. The production of this type of energy produces little or no pollution at all.

The ZBCTV show is a premium lifestyle television show that covers issues concerning the environment, health, safety and community development. “Green Studio has come up with an innovative concept store that bridges the gap between television and reality. The Better Life Shop is modelled around the television program’s theme ‘a better life for you a better life for me’,” said Shaun Chitsiga, the creative director of “Green Studio”.

“The concept store and television studio is an information shop, where members of the community can walk in and access an array of educational content about access to clean energy, environmental protection and community projects.

‘‘One of the products that is already getting a lot of attention from members of the community is biogas digester, which are poised to be a catalyst to the access to clean energy and reduction of deforestation in Zimbabwe.

“This concept store is a first in Zimbabwe and possibly the whole of Africa and as young entrepreneurs, we believe that we play an integral role in National development,” . He said “Green Studio”, to date, has broadcast over 110 life improving episodes on ZBCTV.

The producers of “Green Studio” television show adopted the concept of using media for development and have successfully made impact since premièring on February 13, 2013. Sixty percent of Zimbabweans do not have access to energy and over 90 percent of rural folk depend on firewood for cooking.

The increased access to clean energy in Zimbabwe will help to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change as well as help save forests.

Through highly engaging television episodes, viewers are learning more and more about clean energy, how to access it and the negative impacts of cutting down trees for firewood as well as a vast array of other environment related matters.

“True to the old adage that knowledge is power, Green Studio is aggressively increasing access to vital information that will improve lives. Through innovation and smart partnerships this television platform and concept store brings a new light to the dark woes of both rural and urban Zimbabweans who are in urgent need of alternative sources of energy,” said Chitsiga.

Viewers can catch up with the program on ZBCTV every Friday at 6pm to learn more. On the Christmas evening, Green Studio will feature a special highly educational episode of titled ‘‘Chiedza Chauya’’, which will focus on biogas education and will carry a special message from the Minister of Environment, Water and Climate Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri.
