GOVERNMENT will next month hold consultative workshops to craft a National Policy on Monitoring and Evaluation to ensure successful implementation of Government projects and programmes.This was said by the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda in a Notice of Intent last week.

“The Government of Zimbabwe intends to formulate a National Policy on Monitoring and Evaluation of Government programmes and projects. The objective of the intended policy is to guide the implementation of Government programmes and projects to ensure that desired results are attained within the specified time period,” Dr Sibanda said.

He invited interested persons and parties willing to take part in the policy formulation workshops to be held in Harare and Bulawayo on August 7 to contact the Office of the President and Cabinet by Thursday (tomorrow).

The absence of a policy has resulted in Government embarking on programmes and projects without adequate resources resulting in some of them taking long to complete.

Last week, Finance and Economic Development Minister Patrick Chinamasa said Government was also working on modalities to supervise loan agreements and investment deals entered by ministries and other State institutions to prevent abuse of funds and violation of terms of agreement by some investors.

On a number of occasions Government was forced to cancel tenders for major projects awarded to potential investors  after the winning bidder failed to implement them.

These include tenders for the construction of Kunzvi Dam and for the expansion of Hwange Thermal Power Station.

The construction of a New Central Registry Office in Harare is yet to be completed nearly 14 years after work began.
