The Global Fund national co-ordinator for Zimbabwe’s Country Co-ordinating Mechanism (CCM), Mr Rangarirai Chiteure has died.
Mr Chiteure (46) died from cancer of the liver at Claybank Hospital in Gweru on December 24. His wife Rachel said Mr Chiteure was buried at his rural home in Chivi.

“He was diagnosed with cancer of the liver in February but he never got bed-ridden,” she said. Those who worked with the late Mr Chiteure described him as a passionate and dedicated cadre.

Global Fund director in Zimbabwe, Brigadier-General Celestino Bhasera, said Mr Chiteure was committed to work that benefited communities.

Mr Chiteure started working for the Global Fund in 2006 after a stint at the National Aids Council.

“He was a hard working and dedicated person who left no stone unturned until results that benefit the community are achieved,” said Brig-Gen Bhasera.

He said Chiteure had also become an expert in Global Fund processes.
HIV activist Ms Martha Tholanah said the death of Mr Chiteure was a huge loss.

“We will miss all the lively debates and discussions we would have with him. He was so passionate about his job and worked well with civil society,” she said.

Ms Tholanah said even when he was not well Mr Chiteure continued communicating with and assisitng the CCM.
He is survived by his wife and three children.
