Former Harare Commission chairperson Ms Sekesai Makwavarara was attacked and seriously injured on Tuesday night by seven suspected robbers who raided her farmhouse in Raffingora before stealing US$33 cash, cellphones and a television set.

The seven are alleged to have attacked a security guard who was manning the farm before proceeding to a room where Ms Makwavarara was sleeping and attacked her while demanding cash.

It is alleged that the robbers were saying she had once stolen US$80 million during the time she was the Harare Commission chairperson.

Coincidentally the previous day, Ms Makwavarara had been acquitted by the court of the corruption charges she was facing.

Police said the robbers also attacked farm workers. A report was then made to the police who are still conducting investigations.

During the attack, Ms Makwavarara managed to call for help resulting in her son firing shots and the robbers fled, but they got away with US$33 cash, a television set and three cellphones all valued at US$250.
