Plans to resurface roads in Duma suburb at Nyika Growth Point by the Bikita Rural District Council have stalled due to lack of foreign currency to buy bitumen.

Council has since appealed to Government, through the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe and the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, to avail foreign currency for the importation of bitumen.
Chief executive Mr Peter Chibi said the project was now hanging in the balance because there was no foreign currency.

“Our intention is to tar all the roads around Nyika Growth Point, but we are facing severe foreign currency shortages,” he said. “We need the foreign currency to purchase bitumen solution, which is used in the tarring of roads.

“In Duma suburb, for instance, we only managed to do priming of a 2,3 kilometre stretch of road. We have no bitumen to finish tarring the stretch. We have since appealed to Government to avail foreign currency so that we complete the project.”
Meanwhile, Masvingo City Council has started resurfacing the stretch of road leading to Nyaradzo Funeral Assurance Company, a few weeks after the matter took centre stage during a full council meeting, writes Walter Mswazie.

This was after Nyaradzo paid $43 000 to council for the project in 2016, but nothing had been done three years on.
During the meeting the council’s management came under fire from councillors who demanded to know why the project had not been implemented.

Town Clerk Mr Adolf Gusha said the project started in earnest last week and was on schedule.
