Construction of 65 flats for civil servants in Marondera is in progress, as Government works around the clock to improve the welfare of its employees.

The Government, through the National Housing Delivery Programme, is building four blocks of flats for civil servants in Marondera and they are expected to be finished by November.

The ground-breaking ceremony for the blocks was done in March by National Housing and Social Amenities Minister Daniel Garwe and already significant progress has been made by the contractor.

On completion, the blocks will benefit 65 families.

In an interview yesterday, Leengate Civil Engineering Contractors projects manager Engineer Kennedy Bunhu said they were within the time-frame and will achieve the target.

One of the blocks is already reaching first floor and the contractor is working on pouring concrete as works to complete the first floor progresses.

“We have four blocks that we are building,” said Eng Bunhu.

“At block number 1, we are at the deck level where we are shuttering and putting concrete, while at block 2 and 3, we are still carrying out brick work and are about to reach the first floor level also.

“We are working on shuttering for beams and steel fixing for block number 4. All four blocks are within the time-line and we will complete the entire project within the set and agreed time-lines.”

Eng Bunhu said Leengate was well resourced and the Government had also been availing resources in time, which means they will meet timeliness.

Besides constructing houses for civil servants in Mashonaland East, the Government has also completed construction of Murehwa and Wedza civil registry offices in the province.

At the Wedza New Government Complex, construction is progressing well, with the first building almost complete.

Several projects and programmes are lined-up across the province as the Second Republic fulfils its promises of improving the lives and welfare of every citizen regardless of political affiliation.

Recently, the Government commissioned Muchekeranwa Dam, one of the biggest dams in Mashonaland East, with plans to start irrigation in Marondera and surrounding areas now in place

Hundreds of families will benefit from the dam under the irrigation scheme, thanks to the Second Republic.

Chivhu Dam in Chikomba district is 95 percent complete and will soon open up the urban water supply for Chivhu and for irrigation in surrounding areas.

Also, construction of Kunzvi Dam in Goromonzi to pump water into northern and eastern Harare, Ruwa and Chitungwiza is underway.
