An enraged Kreamorn Investment former Information Technology administrator, who allegedly accessed the company’s Internet service, disabled data and changed his bosses’ passwords has appeared in court.

Brighton Berejena (30), appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Francis Mapfumo facing unauthorised access to computer network charges. He is expected in court on October 15.

Prosecutor Mrs Idah Maromo alleged that Berejena was employed at Kreamorn Investment (Pvt) Ltd as an IT administrator. The court heard that his duties included making sure that all IT networks and servers were up and running smoothly.

It is alleged that in March, Berejena was based at company head office in Eastlea. He was issued with a company laptop, which he was mandated to return upon termination of his contract. On July 17, the company’s management terminated Berejena’s contract because they were not happy with the services he rendered.

It is alleged that on August 16, the company failed to access the Internet using the remote access connections. Passwords were rejected by the system yet the management had not changed their passwords.

They later used the administrator’s user account and password to log into the system. The offence came to light after five servers were disabled and the company director was informed. On August 28, the matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Berejena. He is accused of prejudicing the company of its good administration.
