FC PLATINUM continued their charge towards a maiden Castle Lager Premiership title when they came from behind to beat Highlanders, and stretch their unbeaten run to 11 games, at Barbourfields yesterday. Norman Mapeza’s troops made a mockery of the optimism in the Bosso camp, following the Bulawayo giants’ 5-1 hammering of How Mine in their last game, as they recovered from an early set-back to deservedly win in the City of Kings. Mapeza praised his men for their fighting spirit while his counterpart, Bongani Mafu, felt they paid a huge price for their defensive frailties.

Bosso shot into the lead as early as the fourth minute when the Premiership’s leading scorer, Knox Mutizwa impressive all afternoon, headed home a cross from his striking partner and skipper, Obadiah Tarumbwa.

The Highlanders fans must have thought they were going to celebrate another goal-feast, after Mutizwa shot them into that early lead, as Bosso dominated the opening stages of the game.

However, to their credit, the plucky visitors fought back to win many key midfield battles and, after coming close on a number of occasions, including a goal-line clearance by Highlanders’ defender Felix Chindungwe, FC Platinum struck.

A move down the left channel ended with Brian Muzondiwa releasing Elvis Moyo who picked his spot, from a tight angle, and placed the ball home.

The equaliser, coming close to the interval, meant that it was the visitors who went into the break with a spring in their step.

The killer goal, in the second period, was scored by big forward, Tarisai Rukanda, who screened off his marker, charged towards goal and placed his effort home. And, there was no way back for Bosso as FC Platinum showed that they are in the race for the league championship.
