Fashion styles spice up horse race

The Castle Tankard horse racing event that took place over the weekend in Borrowdale shall be remembered for its extravagant fashion showcase that took centre stage. It was indeed business as usual as horse racing enthusiasts betted for their favourite horses but fashionistas were all out strutting their stuff on the sidelines of the event.

Similar horse racing events like Durban July of South Africa and Royal Ascot in Britain are known to be the ultimate fashion runways for celebrities and socialites

Now it seems the fashion bug has bitten the locals as the trend was clearly outstanding at the horse race.

“Over the years, one thing we have not managed to do is fully paint the fashion side of things that is associated with horse racing,” said Delta Beverages marketing manager Priscilla Murambinda prior to the event. Delta Beverages organised the horse race.

True to her sentiments cartwheel hats, fancy fascinators and designer outfits were the order of the day as guests and officials were dressed to kill.

Although the male counterparts can be commended for making an effort in dressing up, most were guilty of lacking creativity in their attires.

Most were dressed in the plain office suits with no signs of anything unconventional.

The ladies on the other hand were the most daring and converged in their finery.

A fashion parade by local models who showcased local designs added sass to the event.

The show was put together by stylist Haleem Mekani and renowned model-cum-actress Fungai Charlyn Majaya was part of the model brigade.

Complete with a red carpet, VIP tents and the loud fashion statements, the event went a gear up this year and made its impact on the local social calendar.

Meanwhile, everyone was catered for on the other side of the race course as a youthful crowd was having a time of their lives.

Such was the hype at the event was shut down with a musical treat. Dancehall stars Tocky Vibes and Winky D were part of the entertainers with the later recording a good day in office.
