The executor of the late General Solomon Mujuru’s estate yesterday called off a meeting with the beneficiaries of the national hero’s inheritance after few members of the family turned up for the decisive meeting.

Mujuru’s children and the surviving spouse, former Vice President Dr Joice Mujuru, are at each other’s throat over the distribution of the estate.

Reliable sources who attended the meeting were advised by the executor, Mr Stern Mufara, that the meeting had been postponed to sometime next month.

The sources said one of the lawyers in the matter had advised the executor that he would be fully booked until the last week of June.

“The lawyer is also of the opinion that the handling of this estate is confidential and privileged,” said the sources.

“He (the lawyer) further advised the executor that the Press should not be involved.”

The sources also revealed that the late Gen Mujuru’s lawyer, Mr Thakor Kewada of Scanlen and Holderness, requested that he be given until end of May to make available all documents and information of the estate.

“In the circumstances, the meeting had to be deferred to a date to be agreed by the parties.”

Gen Mujuru died in an inferno at his Ruzambo Farm, Beatrice, in August 2011.

He left behind many children and his mega estate has ignited a fierce legal battle with heirs at one time taking Dr Mujuru to court.

The estate is linked to multinational investments in mining, real estate, agriculture and tourism.

His interests covered River Ranch Diamond Mine, Zimbabwe Mining and Smelting Company, Marange Diamonds, Trojan Mine, Kulmic Investments and Ruzira Properties.

He also held stakes in hotels and lodges in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Mozambique among many other investments.
