The weekly diseases surveillance report of the Ministry of Health and Child Care shows that 12 people have died of diarrhoea throughout the country, bringing the death toll so far this year to 183.Mashonaland Central is the hardest hit.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care weekly surveillance report shows that 9 688 cases were recorded this week, bringing the total number of treated cases in a fortnight to 18 599.

“Of the cases reported 5 222 and five deaths were from the under five years age group,” reads part of the Government’s weekly report on diseases surveillance.

The deaths were reported from “Tsholotsho district(two), and Umguza district (one), both in Matebeleland North province, Shurugwi district in the Midlands (one), Chegutu district in Mashonaland West (two), Umzingwane district in Matebeleland South (three) and the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals (two),” reads the report.

More than 100 000 people have been treated of diarrhoea across the country since the beginning of the year.

The provinces which reported the highest number of diarrhoea cases are Mashonaland Central with 1 543 and Manicaland (1 534.
