It is true that we live in a world full of dancers. Some people are born great, some achieve greatness while others have greatness thrust upon them. Docas Matanhike (18) is a dancer who has featured in several dancing activities and occasions and is a shining with multiple talents.

In her case, playing museve, ‘Clarks’ and singing are her hobbies since she was in Form Two when she began to show her skills in dancing and singing.

In an interview last weekend in Zengeza 3 Dorcas expressed her dedication to dancing as her hobby since her Form Two days.

She said was happy with how dancing as a career in panning out for her.

“I started my dancing career in Form Two at Zengeza 1 High and that is when I achieved my first prize for being the best dancer of the year at the school.

“As a young dancer I have a vision of taking dance to the next level, especially Zengeza I want to make this area stylish,” said Docas.

She said her breakthrough came at a Zim dancehall show where she thrilled some fans.

“There was this day when I went to Rainbow Towers and I started dancing and singing and the crowd responded positively.

“Some of the popular singers like Soul Jah Love, Seh Calaz were performing. It was not a competition but I believe that I made my mark,” she enthused.

Dorcas added that at first her parents discouraged her from following her passion but later accepted and she has been inspired and motivated by her sister to continue dancing.

She is looking for any competitions where she can show what she is made of.

“You know very well that teenagers from ghetto suburbs face a lot of hardships; even platforms, we don’t have any yet we are talented. Taking part in competitions will help me improve my skills,” she said.

She said lack of sponsorship and opportunities is hindering her.

Dorcas encouraged other young girls dancers to have the passion to do whatever they desire to do and put their hearts to it.

Currently she is studying Ordinary Level at Zengeza 1 High and said books come first.

“The future is bright for me and my dream is have a dance academy and where I teach other teens the importance and purpose of dancing. I put books first, hence practise dancing during my spare time,” she said.

Her message to peers: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”.
