WOMEN AFFAIRS, Gender and Community Development Deputy Minister Abigail Damasane thrilled guests at the Miss Universities beauty contest over the weekend when she took to the dance floor at Ochi City. Deputy Minister Damasane was the guest of honour at the contest.

She, however, flipped the script soon after presenting her speech leaving guests from the corporate world stunned as the deputy minister “dropped it like it’s hot” to songs from Zahara, Mafikizolo and DJ Ganyani.

The outspoken minister has made it no secret that she is passionate about developmental issues that concern the girl child. She has been described by young women as a mother and mentor.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes when she started dancing but surprisingly she is very good. Now there is a woman who knows how to officiate at functions.

“She set the pace and everyone was in jovial mood from then. Who knew that politicians could be this fun at functions?” said Nyasha Msiska, one of the beauty enthusiasts.

The deputy minister was also an active participant, giving women empowerment lectures to the Miss Universities finalists who were in a boot camp at Ochi Safaris prior to the finale.

Valerie Chingonzo (22) from the Women’s University in Africa won the prestigious title when she beat 25 other contestants from universities around the country. She walked away with a Toyota Vitz, US$500, university fees voucher and groceries.

Besides the deputy minister, there was also a group from Masvingo which displayed fancy footwork just like the Nigerian group P-Square.
