HARARE City Council is building a database listing residents of Hopley settlement so that people living in the area and their status can be ascertained and legal stand owners given proper documents.

Hopley settlement, south of Harare, evolved after operation Murambatsvina, which saw the destruction of illegal structures across the country.  It is home mostly to those who were relocated after the operation conducted in 2005. Council, in a statement, said the database would produce stand files for owners of property in the settlement.

“The City of Harare is embarking on a database compilation for Hopley settlement,” it said.

“The city is, therefore, calling upon all Hopley residents to come and register their be-con forms. Hopley Tariro residents should visit their district office with their be-con forms which were offered to them by the city between 2006 and 2007.

“The residents should also submit photocopies of their national identity card, children’s birth certificates for those below 18, marriage certificates if available and spouse national identity card if available.”

The exercise, according to council, will aid in regularising property in Hopley, making sure that all the property owners in the area have proper documents.

“The information will also help the city produce stand files for the owners,” said the city.

“For those Hopley residents who do not have the above documents, you should also visit the district office and register.

“The registration process, which has already begun, will run until end of March 2020. For more information, get in touch with Hopley Tariro district officer Mrs Viyena Govera and acting area administration officer Mavis Vusire.”

Recently, City of Harare’s director of housing and community services Mr Addmore Nhekairo applauded the work being done by their partners at the City’s Hopley Tariro Clinic and Youth Centre.
