LONDON. — Manchester City are reportedly weighing up an ambitious move to bring Luis Suarez back to the English Premier League. The 29-year-old has enjoyed a second successive stellar season with Barcelona, netting 53 goals and providing 19 assists in just 46 games. And new City boss Pep Guardiola is said to be keen on the Uruguayan star as he seeks to mount a title challenge in his first year in charge at the Etihad.

Suarez left Liverpool in a £65million deal in 2014 and the Sunday Mirror suggests Guardiola will need to stump up £85m to have any chance of prizing him away from the Nou Camp.

The Spaniard’s hopes of completing a deal may be boosted by his brother though. Pere Guardiola, Pep’s brother, acts as Suarez’s agent and could be crucial to convincing him to bring an end to the acclaimed MSN trio which netted 90 La Liga goals last season.

However, Suarez’s wife and family are reportedly settled in Spain and that may prove a stumbling block to the proposed move.

If Guardiola does secure Suarez’s services for the mooted fee, he will join Gareth Bale as the joint most expensive player in history. — The Daily Express.
