Chungwa looks ahead with optimism Dominic Chungwa

CAPS United forward Dominic Chungwa says he feels he could have a big season and is fighting to improve his rate of conversion. Chungwa scored his fourth goal of the season on Wednesday but, crucially, his goals have been priceless for the Green Machine in that whenever he scores the team usually wins.He scored the goal that ended Makepekepe’s seven-year wait for a league victory over Dynamos in the Harare Derby and also the goal that won the game against Highlanders last Sunday.

Speaking at a club’s Press briefing ahead of the top-of-the-table clash against FC Platinum at the National Sports Stadium tomorrow — Chungwa, who was in the company of goalkeeper Edmore “Zikeeper” Sibanda and assistant coach Fungai “Tostao” Kwashi — said he is enjoying his game.

“This has been a better season for me and I am looking forward to doing well again. We are ready for the match and I think we will do our best for the CAPS United family.

“This is a challenge (missing a lot of chances) that I have so far but when you go into a game, no-one wants to miss and we are ready to fight the battle.

“It happens even in Europe, players such as Gerrard (Steve) missed chances but they never gave up.

“That is football, my coaches and the teammates are always the best motivators because they are the ones always surrounding me,” said Chungwa.

Kwashi said although tomorrow’s match had a huge bearing on the title race, they will not let that pile pressure on them.

“After this game, there would be 12 games left and that is 36 points to play for,” said Kwasi.

“Right now we have played 17 games and 13 games left and that is 39 points to play for. There are a lot games and points at stake.

“There are still a lot of exciting battles to come, so it is still game on. This game has a bearing, yes, it would be tension-filled but to say it will decide which team will win the league is wrong.

“There are so many teams in the race, don’t rule out Highlanders, ZPC Kariba, Harare City even Dynamos.”

Kwashi believes it would be an open game.

FC Platinum are coming into this match after they were held at home by Hwange.

“It is a huge game, this game is very important, top-of-the-table, we are both challenging for honours, they play good football, we play good football and so we expect Saturday’s game to be a good football fiesta for football fans.

“Both sides are in a good health in terms of performance and results and so all those ingredients make everything worthwhile and give people hope and expectations of getting a fantastic game.

“Whenever we play home or away, we always aim for maximum points, aim of the best. We will have a good day on Saturday.

“The spirit is high but what we are trying to do is to take each game as it comes and not get ahead of ourselves.

“It is still four months, so we haven’t won anything, a lot of battles and tough assignments are coming up. I am not trying to water down anything. ” said Kwashi.
