A Chitungwiza pair that was caught red-handed by a police officer in a sex romp behind a night club was yesterday fined US$80 each for criminal nuisance.Ficket Mukwenha (28) and his partner, Audrey Kamoto (24) blamed their actions on                                                                                           alcohol.

The pair pleaded guilty to criminal nuisance charges before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini. Mr Jarabini fined them US$80 each, failing which they would spend 30 days behind bars.

In sentencing them, Mr Jarabini said the court was of the view that intoxication in the circumstances was mitigatory as it reduced the pair’s moral blameworthiness.

“Certainly, in the absence of an insinuation of insanity, you would not have committed the act of having sexual intercourse at a public place,” said Mr Jarabini.

The prosecutor Ms Pauline Chamunorwa proved that a police constable Maphosa stationed at Chitungwiza police station was on patrol at around midnight on February 1 this year.

Around that time, Mukwenha and Kamoto were drinking beer in Tarven night club in the town before having a romp at the back of the club.

They left other patrons in a huff rushing to a secluded area where they started having sex.  However, they ran out of luck when Cst Maphosa stumbled upon them.

Cst Maphosa apprehended them and took them to the police station.
