Chitsiko laid to rest Mr Chitsiko

FORMER Permanent Secretary in the Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Resettlement Ministry, Engineer Ringson Chitsiko who died on Sunday of Covid-19-related complications was buried at his Chauke Farm in Mhangura yesterday.

Eng Chitsiko, who was accorded a State-assisted funeral was laid to rest under strict Covid-19 control regulations. He was 68.

The former top civil servant was praised for being a hard worker and was once Agritex director and Permanent Secretary in the then Ministry of Water Resources and Development. 

Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Resettlement Deputy Minister Douglas Karoro said the renowned farmer, who voluntarily resigned from his position in 2019, worked diligently on the Government’s agriculture turnaround plan.

“I want to thank President Mnangagwa for according Engineer Chitsiko a State-assisted funeral because of his hard work in promoting and reviving the agriculture sector,” he said.

Engineer Chitsiko was set to be appointed to the new Zimbabwe Land Commission board. 

“As a Ministry, we saw it fit to have him on the Zimbabwe Land Commission board and he was about to be appointed by the President,” said Deputy Minister Karoro. 

Family representative Mr Bernard Chitsiko and Zanu PF Midlands chairperson, Cde Daniel Mackenzie Ncube thanked the President for honouring Eng Chitsiko. 

He is survived by his wife, four children and five grandchildren.
