A Chipinge man was found hanging from a tree in a thicket adjacent his homestead after a heated domestic dispute over infidelity.

In a separate case, a blind woman from the same area took her life under unclear circumstances.

Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the death of Ben Muyambo (44), of Jongwe village, Chipinge, who is said to have had an argument with his wife over infidelity before hanging himself.

Muyambo suspected his wife to be cheating on him and confronted her.

Muyambo’s wife, Patricia Simango (33), denied having an extra-marital affair, and instead counter-accused Muyambo of being jealous and a control freak.

It is alleged that Muyambo could not take it and left home to visit his cousin, Taurai Mashava, in Kaguvi village in the same area.

He wanted to seek counseling following the fallout between him and his wife.

Mashava failed to provide a lasting solution to Muyambo’s problems, who then then elected to take his life.

Esther Matumburu, a fellow villager, found Muyambo’s body in the bush and rushed to inform Mashava.

Mashava then reported the case to Chisumbanje Police Station.

In the case of the Chipinge blind woman, she was found hanging in her house in a suspected case of suicide.

Prior to taking her life, Haripendedzi Chamboko (45) had been heard complaining that her children were not taking care of her.

She hanged herself on the roof trusses using a black electricity cable.

Insp Kakohwa said Chamboko has been accusing her children of neglecting her because she was blind.

She was suicidal, having attempted to take her own life on numerous occasions.

Chamboko committed suicide when her children had gone to school.

“They left her alone home; later in the afternoon her grandchild, Peter Masiz,a passed through her homestead and saw her body hanging from the roof trusses,” said Insp Kakohwa.

Insp Kakohwa urged members of the public to find amicable ways to solve issues or seek professional counselling services.

Meanwhile, a Chipinge man has been hauled before the courts on allegations of sodomising five children aged between 10 and 13, reports Samantha Zengeni.

The suspect, Panashe Muchato (30) of Takawiririra Compound, Greenfuel, under Chief Garahwa was not asked to plead when he appeared before magistrate Mr Poterai Gwezhira facing five counts of aggravated indecent assault.

Mr Gwezhira remanded Muchato in custody to July 30 and advised him to approach the High Court for bail application.

Mrs Sekai Maera prosecuted.

The prosecutor said Muchato would invite the young boys and entice them with some goodies before sodomising them.

The alleged abuse took place during the period extending January 2018 to July 2019.

He would order the boys not to reveal the abuse to anyone.

The court heard that the man repeated the sexual attacks on the boys until one of the victims reported the case to the police.

The boys positively identified him.
