CHIPINGE is a sleeping economic giant whose vast potential has not been fully explored and exploited so that it contributes more effectively and competitively to the national economy, a Government official has said.

Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs Senator Monica Mutsvangwa said recently that Chipinge had vast resources which had not been fully exploited over the past years.

Chipinge is one of Manicaland’s seven administrative districts and is reputed for macadamia nuts and fruits.

Sen Mutsvangwa said there was need to create a peaceful environment which is an ingredient for development.

“We are saying people of Manicaland, this is the time to unite to make sure that we have a peaceful environment which will bring in investors,” she said.

“What we need in this province are investors and we have everything that we need to make it number one in Zimbabwe.

“I have learnt about the seven administrative districts of Manicaland.

“There are districts which have not been known for their wonderful resources. I think Chipinge is a sleeping giant and we need to do much more.”

Sen Mutsvangwa said there was need to invest more in the macadamia nuts, fruits and other natural resources found in Chipinge.

She said there was need to increase value addition and beneficiation of agricultural produce in Manicaland.

“Of course, we cannot run away from other natural resources like the gold and diamond that we have in Manicaland,” said Sen                                                  Mutsvangwa.

“We are saying this is the time that we want them to be exploited and explored.

“It does not end there, but we also want value addition and beneficiation of even our agricultural produce, which will give us more jobs.”

Sen Mutsvangwa said she was looking forward to making Mutare serve its role as the gateway to the Indian Ocean.

“We want industries to be opened and create jobs for our people and this is the vision that we have,” she said.

“It is our President Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision to develop and turn around the economy.”
