Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Commander Lieutenant-General Edzai Absolom Chimonyo has applauded army officers for their professionalism which enables them to perform exceptionally well in military campaigns and international duties.

Speaking at a deliberate attack exercise and graduation ceremony for the Battalion Group Commanders’ Course held recently in Nyanga, Lt-Gen Chimonyo said he would not accept army officers failing to meet the expected standards of professionalism.

Twelve army officers graduated after undertaking the 14-week-long training.

“I am informed that one student from this course was returned to the unit for indiscipline,” he said.

“The officer failed to abide by the provisions of the standing training instructions leading to his dismissal. Let me categorically state that I will not stand and watch officers and non-commissioned members failing to meet the standards of professionalism expected of them in any aspect of their conduct. To the graduating students today, I would like to commend you for the high standards of discipline you exhibited throughout the course.”

Lt-Gen Chimonyo said there was need to inculcate and nurture discipline in the army saying it was the hallmark for professionalism.

He also urged the army to be resourceful saying resources would never be adequate.

Lt-Gen Chimonyo also commended army officers who were deployed in various countries for their professional conduct.

“In any society, the army as part of the security forces is there to maintain a stable environment conducive for socio-economic development and national prosperity. I expect each of you to play their part in ensuring that we continue to uphold the high standards of professionalism that have enabled us to succeed in military campaigns and international duties that we have carried out so far,” he said.

Lt-Gen Chimonyo said they had observers and staff officers who were working in South Sudan, Darfur and the Kingdom of Lesotho.

He said the army officers deployed in those countries were performing exceptionally well.
