Child president Navile Tawananyasha Mavu has called on young people to embrace the values of the liberation struggle which brought Independence in Zimbabwe and to safeguard the hard-won freedom.

Speaking during a press conference ahead of Independence Celebrations to be held next week, child president Mavu challenged the youth to take up the responsibility of blocking any form of imperialism engineered to threaten the freedom being enjoyed in the country.

Mavu said President Mnangagwa is a pragmatic leader who has transformed Zimbabwe into an investor’s paradise  through the engagement and re-engagement drive.

He said President Mnangagwa is encouraging young people to desist from indulging in social ills such as drugs and substances abuse, as guard rails to Vision 2030.

“My call is mainly focusing on my fellow young people to embrace the values of the liberation struggle which dislodged the white regime and brought Independence in 1980.”

“We need to circumvent any action that can threaten our hard-won Independence and ensure continuity of the freedom.

“As young people, we should follow President Mnangagwa’s leadership template of focused leadership. He is a pragmatist who is determined to safeguard the values of Independence brought by the liberation struggle.”

“The President is a leader who opened democratic space from all fronts. He has included young people in all facets to ensure that youth are on board as future leaders of the country,” he explained.

Mavu underscored the need for young people to love their country adding that they should desist from discrediting their country on social media.

“Patriotism is the turn key to sustainable development.”

Mavu said President Mnangagwa launched a campaign against drugs and dangerous substance abuse which was rampant among the youth.

The development was part of cultivating good culture among the young generation.

Mavu lauded the First Lady Dr Auxilia Mnangagwa for her philanthropic work, adding that he emulates the mother of the nation.

He said during his tenure, he complements Amai Mnangagwa’s love for the country through reaching out to everyone in Zimbabwe.

Mavu recently launched the Navile Tawananyasha Mavu Foundation that would focus on humanitarian work.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe will mark the 44th Independence Anniversary on Thursday and the main celebrations are in Buhera, in Manicaland Province.

The development was initiated by President Mnangagwa to ensure that all provinces host national gatherings with Mashonaland Central being the first to mark the initiative.

This year’s celebrations will run under the theme “Zim @44: Unity, Peace and Development towards Vision 2030.”

The theme resonates with the national goals and aspirations.

The Independence anniversary will be commemorated with music and dance, and at least 20 artistes representing diverse genres were chosen to appeal to all generations varying from sungura, gospel, dancehall, mbira, chimurenga, kanindo, afro-fusion and hip-hop.
