EXCITING Zimbabwean teen forward Jimiel Takunda Chikukwa has signed his first professional contract with English Premiership side, Watford FC’s Academy.

The 18-year-old, who was nurtured at Leeds United, was roped in as a free agent after he impressed the club’s scouts on trial.

Chikukwa took to the social media sites yesterday to express his joy over the new developments.

“Happy to announce that I’ve signed my first professional contract with Watford FC. I would like to thank my family and friends for all their support. I’m looking forward to this journey!” he said.

Watford also announced Chikukwa’s arrival on their official media platforms.

“Watford FC Academy is pleased to announce the signing of exciting young forward Jimiel Chikukwa. The 18-year-old joins the Hornets after a successful trial period, following his departure from Leeds United in the summer,” the club said on their website.

The teenager was among the 10 second-year scholars released by the Whites in the summer following the expiry of their contracts. He also had a trial with second-tier side Huddersfield Town before coming to Watford.

Compatriot, Ethan Kachosa, who was also among the released second-year scholars, has since signed a two-year professional contract at Sunderland, where he will be featuring for the Under-23 side this season.
