CHIEF Mapanzure has a called for peace among the Shabanie Mine and FC Platinum fans ahead of the eighth edition of the Zvishavane derby this Sunday. He has also blasted referees whose questionable officiating stokes the flames among the fans. “As a traditional leader in Zvishavane, I am appealing to the fans in the mining town to accept the outcome of the match on Sunday and not to engage in violence,” said Chief Mapanzure.
“I am also urging the referees to practise fair play and not to spoil a good afternoon for the fans.

“I am urging the referees association to appoint their best men to handle the derby matches and I hope our referees will follow the footsteps of Felix (Tangawarima), who has been a beacon for Zimbabwe.”

Shabanie Mine fans felt hard done two weeks ago by Kwekwe referee Munyaradzi Majoni, who controversially ruled out an effort by Ashley Mukwena.

Meanwhile, Division One side Zvishavane Stars got a lifeline when Mwale Engineering Company, a local company, donated a set of branded uniforms, tracksuits and balls valued at US$3 000.

“We are people who were born in Zvishavane. God has given us an opportunity to do something in the town so we are giving back to the community as we want to raise the standards,” said Lameck Mwale, the managing director of the company.
“It’s not going to end here but we are going to give them moral as well as financial support.”

Zvishavane Stars secretary, Chikerema Maremba, hailed the company for their donation. “It’s wonderful to see local business people coming to sponsor us. It’s a noble cause and we are now hoping to finish in the top four of the Central Region Division One,” said Maremba.
