Chief Madziwa of Mashonaland Central Province was buried last Wednesday, barely a week after the burial of Chief Chapoto from the same province.

Chief Madziwa who was born on November 2, 1950 in Mukunga Village, Madziwa, died after a short illness. He was the 17th chief from the Madziwa chieftainship.

Speaking during the burial, Deputy Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Jennifer Mhlanga said the death of Chief Madziwa comes at a time when Government was ceding more economic power to the chiefs and their people through the devolution agenda.

She said Chief Madziwa was a great chief whose work was developmentally oriented and worked well with Chaminuka Rural District Council as the chairperson of the Shamva Community Share Ownership Trust and it was during his tenure of office that the council managed to embark on a number of construction projects including the renovation of the Shamva District Heroes’ Acre.

“As Government, we are really saddened by the death of Chief Madziwa,” said Deputy Minister Mhlanga. “The province was engulfed by a dark cloud following the death of Chief Chapoto of Mbire who died last week, followed by Chief Madziwa after a short illness. It is painful to lose two important people who worked together well in a row.

“Government fully supports the great work that is being done by chiefs and the death of Chief Madziwa comes at a time when it was ceding economic power to them and their people through the devolution agenda.

“Chief Madziwa was a great chief whose work was developmentally oriented and worked well with Chaminuka Rural District Council as the chairperson of the Shamva Community Share Ownership Trust. It was during his tenure of office that the council managed to embark on a number of construction projects including the renovation of Shamva District Heroes’ Acre.”

Deputy Mhlanga urged the Madziwa family would to work together to choose another great chief like the late Chief Madziwa.
