TRADITIONAL leaders have called for collective efforts towards reclaiming the environment following the devastating Cyclone Idai, saying villagers should also play a role in that regard.

The tropical cyclone left a trail of destruction that caused a number of deep gullies and destroyed flora and fauna.

Chief Muusha, whose subjects were also seriously affected by the tropical cyclone in Ngangu, said if the environment was left unattended, crop production might also be greatly affected.

“Our environment is in a bad state and there is need for environmental rehabilitation since it is risky for us and our domestic animals,” he said.

“Our cows and goats are at risk when they go for grazing. Look at these gullies, and all these deep pits which are all over the place.

“There is need for these gullies to be refilled so that our environment is restored.”

Chief Muusha said much of the farming land was destroyed by the cyclone.

A villager, Loice Giwa, under Chief Muusha, also raised the same concerns saying the gullies needed to be reclaimed ahead of the rainy and farming season.
