The Chibuku Super Cup quarter-final draw will be held this afternoon in Gweru. In keeping with their pledge to spread the tournament around the country, Delta Beverages and the Premier Soccer League will stage the draw at Mkoba Six’s Zaire Bar. Chibuku Super Cup is in its second year after returning to the local football radar last year.

After the first round clashes, eight teams made it through to the quarter-finals and they will be paired at today’s draw. Defending champions FC Platinum, who beat Harare City in last year’s final, are still in the race for a second title while the Sunshine Boys who were the biggest first round winners will also be in the hat.

To get to the quarter-finals FC Platinum got the better of Dongo Sawmill 2-0 at Mandava while Harare City thrashed Buffaloes 4-1 at Rufaro.

How Mine who needed a 4-3 penalty shoot-out win over Highlanders are also in the reckoning as are Gweru air force side Chapungu who dismissed Flame Lilly 2-1.

ZPC Kariba also pulled through to the last eight after beating former Cup Kings CAPS United 4-1 on penalties after the two sides had finished 2-2 in regulation time.

Kelvin Kaindu’s Triangle also managed to negotiate the first round jitters via a penalty lottery when they beat Tsholotsho 3-0 in the shoot-out following a 2-2 draw in normal time. Premiership log leaders Chicken Inn however did not need penalties as they saw off Hwange 2-0 and giants Dynamos will complete the quarter-finalist list after they reached the stage by winning their match against Whahwa through a Richard Kawondera late strike.

The quarter-finalists
Chapungu, Chicken Inn, Dynamos, FC Platinum, Harare City, How Mine, Triangle United, ZPC Kariba.
