Simba Chiminya in GWERU

Chapungu . . . . . . . . . . . . . (2) 2

How Mine . . . . . . . . . . . . . (1) 2

CHAPUNGU fans turned against their coach John Nyikadzino after his charges allowed How Mine to claw back and steal a point in a Castle Lager Premiership tie at Ascot yesterday.

The hosts twice led but the plucky miners fought back on each occasion.

The fans were incensed by the withdrawal of lively winger Xolani Ncube for ageing Philip Marufu and the inclusion of Maxwell Mavuto for Jameson Mukombwe. Nyikadzino admitted the fans were justified in getting angry as it has been long since they last won a match at home.

“After the win away to Border Strikers, the fans felt that it was time to win at home. They were right because we ought to have won this match,” said Nyikadzino.

“We played well in the first half but we allowed them to come back at us in the second half. We should have defended our lead but then we failed to track down the striker who punished us.”

But Agrippa Peperere put Chapungu ahead on the 13th minute, heading in a flick from Allen Tavarwisa.

The visitors equalised three minutes later with Pasca Manhanga tapping in a rebound after goalkeeper Roy Mazingi parried a Tonha free-kick back into play.

Tavarwisa scored a beauty in the 36th minute to restore his team’s lead.

Substitute Kuda Musharu scored How Mine’s equaliser with five minutes remaining.

“We should have won this game, but we allowed them to score soft goals,” said How Mine coach Kelvin Kaindu.

“We didn’t play well in the first half. We need to work on our defence because we continue to let in soft goals.”

All the five meetings between Chapungu and How Mine have ended in stalemates.
