Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister Ezra Chadzamira has invited investors to take advantage of the vast investment opportunities in mining and agriculture and help grow the province’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

He said a boom in investment would stem the runaway migration of youths into neighbouring South Africa in search of jobs.

He said Masvingo needed to increase its GDP in line with President Mnangagwa’s vision of making Zimbabwe an Upper Middle Income economy by 2030.

Addressing guests attending the official launch of aeromagnetic surveying of diamonds in Mwenezi and Chiredzi recently, Cde Chadzamira expressed concern over failure by investors to tap into the vast economic opportunities obtaining in the province.

“Youths, women and all marginalised communities in this great province should benefit from the exploration of our natural resources,” he said.

“Furthermore, exploitation of resources should be drivers of rapid and equitable development in marginalised communities.”

Minister Chadzamira said economic revival was at the core of the priorities of President Mnangagwa’s Government.

“We will complete our desire as Government and a listening leadership to create employment through various sectors such as mining, agriculture, tourism and infrastructure development,” he said.

“Masvingo is rich in these sectors and investors are invited to grab low-hanging opportunities such as those presented by the Tugwi-Mukosi Dam, especially irrigation development, establishment of sugarcane milling and ethanol plants, construction of Runde-Tende Dam, mini hydro power stations and the phased and localised dualisation of the Beitbridge- Masvingo-Harare highway.”

Minister Chadzamira said plans to start diamond mining in Mwenezi and Chiredzi would have ripple effects on the growth of Rutenga into a town and expansion of Sango into a modern border post.

“The exploration of diamonds will bring new diversified economic activities in Mwenezi and Chiredzi districts,” he said.

“The mining activities will result in economic transformation of the Lowveld and trigger massive rural development.

“The development of Rutenga as a dry port and the modernisation of Sango Border Post will stimulate trade activities that will generate the much needed foreign currency and investment in our country.”
