CDF projects underway in Mutasa South Cde Zindi

Mutasa South legislator Cde Irene Zindi says projects being funded through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in her constituency were well underway.

In an interview last week, Cde Zindi said already $4 000 of the $50 000 kitty has been used.

“Through CDF, work is already under way; we are currently finishing off staff houses at Tsvingwe Clinic.

“The structures were first put up by a local funeral service company, but we are now putting the finishing touches and installing electricity,” she said.

Work on the construction of market stalls for Wards 11, 12 and 14, she said, had also begun.

“While we have only utilised $4 000, we look forward to using more of the fund to finish construction of the market stalls, as well as construction of more classroom blocks at Chiremba Primary School in Ward 23,” said Cde Zindi.

“When you look at the work that needs to be undertaken in the constituency, the money is not much. But we are thankful that we have it and it will be a starting point, and we can look for more funding as time goes on.”

She said the construction of market stalls was an important project as it gave dignity to women who eke out a living from vending.

“With the market stalls, these are the community projects that we want to grow.

“Women who make a living from selling fruits and vegetables need to be comfortable when they are carrying out their work.

“We need to give them dignity to be able to go about their work without being harassed for vending at undesignated sites,” she added.

Cde Zindi is among the few MPs who have so far met the stringent requirements to access the CDF.

The fund is meant to help legislators carry out developmental projects in their constituencies.
