Castle Challenge Cup to close season Norman Mapeza

Sports Reporter
THE curtain comes down on this year’s football season when champions FC Platinum host Triangle at Mandava in the $50 000 Castle Challenge Cup scheduled for December 2.

FC Platinum are the holders of the cup after beating Harare City at the same venue in the inaugural edition last year.

The Castle Challenge Cup pits the league champions and the winners of the main knockout tournament, the Chibuku Super Cup.

But this is going to be a hectic fortnight for Norman Mapeza and his men, who are scheduled to plunge into the CAF Champions League next Tuesday with a preliminary round date away to CNaPS Sports of Madagascar.

Before engaging in Africa, they will need to wind up the Castle Lager Premiership calendar tomorrow with a trip to Bulawayo to face giants Highlanders at Barbourfields.

The platinum miners are on a date with another milestone as they are set to become the first team to hit the 80-point mark with a win at Highlanders.

Last year, they won their maiden championship with 72 points, but they have since surpassed that mark after hopping to 77 following the 1-0 win over nearest rivals Ngezi Platinum in the penultimate game of the season last Saturday.

FC Platinum were also officially handed their Premiership trophy after that match against Ngezi at Mandava.
