Masvingo City Council is planning to designate places for open air worship as it moves to prevent disease outbreaks since most present sites do not have ablution facilities.

Council is also working on by-laws to regulate open air worshipping.

Open air worshipping has become a common feature in the town, especially in Mucheke suburb.

Only a few churches, especially those in places like Eastvale, have managed to build toilets.

Johane Masowe Chishanu leader Madzibaba Garai Kufandanda who has a huge following in Eastvale said he hoped council will not move him from his present site after he built toilets to cater for hundreds of congregants, who visit his shrine daily.

According to minutes of the Health and Housing portfolio committee held on March 4 which were adopted by the full council on Monday this week, the city’s Housing and Community Services director Mr Levison Nzvura was tasked to deal with open air worshipping.
