AWARD-WINNING kwaito star Brickz threw his hands in the air and wept as he returned to the holding cells following his first court appearance for the alleged rape of a 16-year-old. The 32-year-old will spend eight more days behind the brown brick walls of the Roodepoort police holding cells.

Brickz (real name Sipho Charles Ndlovu) was remanded in custody when he appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court yesterday afternoon.

The musician, who shot to fame with the song “Sweety My Baby” in 2009, was arrested in Johannesburg on Friday for allegedly raping the girl in Honeydew on March 26.

Dressed in a black sweatshirt, blue pair of jeans and red-and-white sneakers, the musician walked into the dock and chatted to his lawyer, Isaac Mokgopi.

But when the magistrate postponed the case, he threw his hands in the air and cried.
National Prosecuting Authority South Gauteng spokesperson Phindi Louw said the state would oppose bail on November 12.

“Rape is a Schedule 6 offence which is a very serious case,” she said. — City Press.
