LEO clubs are hosting a breast cancer awareness campaign this Saturday aimed at increasing awareness on the disease.

In a statement, LEO clubs projects director for Zimbabwe and Botswana, Ms Makaita Ngwenya, said the programme was open for all to participate.

“LEO clubs are an affiliate of LIONS Club International Foundation, a humanitarian organisation,” she said.

“Our main aim being to develop future leaders through active involvement in community service.

“On the 13th of October, Leo’s are having a breast cancer awareness day. The main mandate is to raise awareness to the males that breast cancer can also affect them while at the same time encouraging females to go for screening on time for early detection.

“The project is open to all and every club or organisation which wishes to take part.”

Ms Ngwenya said the project, which was a brainchild of Zimbabwe LEOs, had since been adopted internationally

She said at an international level, the project will be taking place in Italy, India, Sri Lanka, Hungary, Togo, Botswana, Malawi, Ecuador and South Africa.

“In Zimbabwe, this project is happening in different places around the country in Hwange, Kwekwe, Chinhoyi, Mutare, Bulawayo and Harare,” said Ms Ngwenya.
