ZIMBABWE BMX coach Tafi Machingaidze is happy with the preparations ahead of next month’s World Championships.

The five-day World Championships will run from July 21 to 25 in Antwerp, Belgium.

And Machingaidze said the 13-member squad was now training everyday at the Harare BMX in Groombridge, Harare.

They will tour South Africa in two weeks time.

The team is going to use the “key one racing” event in South Africa to fine-tune themselves for the World Championships.

The Zimbabwean side are expected to take part at the 2015 UCI BMX World Championships at Heusden-Zolder in Belgium next month.

Machingaidze feels the team can only achieve good results in South Africa if they train daily at their track.

“We have many races coming up and our key one is in South Africa, two weeks before the World Championships, and between now and then we will be doing a lot of training.

“All our preparations are going on well and l am very happy with the developments at each training session.

“We have been working on a number of things, including fitness and jumping on the track and so far I can say l am pleased with the team, they are improving fast,” he said.

He said every athlete at the World Championships needed to be fit.

“We have been working on the team’s fitness since January and now I am happy with that, what is required of the team is to prepare their mind-set.

“They have to be mentally focused.

“Everyone adjusts differently but I believe and hope that by the time we will leave for the World Championships everyone will be ready.

“We are going to have two riders who are going to take part in the junior elite,” said Machingaidze.

Machingaidze said Andrew Chamunorwa has not raced outside the country in a couple of years and could face challenges in their South African tour.

“Racing locally always makes most of our riders relaxed and for Andrew, who has not been racing outside our country, he is likely to face some challenges.

“If Andrew performs well in South Africa, it will be the best indicator for us to know that he will stand a chance of doing well at the World Championships.”
