Winky D’s album launch could be the first biggest show of 2018, if the demand for tickets to the gig is anything to go by. The dancehall star will launch his album titled “Gombwe” at Harare International Conference Centre on February 2.

Organisers of the show, 2Kings Entertainment, said the show is promising to be a big event that will signal the beginning of emphatic 2018 showbiz. Showbiz is traditionally low this month and most musicians have taken a break. Those that have been brave enough to continue with shows have had low turnouts. Activities usually take shape at the end of January and Winky D’s launch has been strategically positioned to set the ball in motion.

“Since the poster went public, our lines have been busy and tickets are selling fast. We know people do not have much money to spend this time of the month and we are surprised at the rate of ticket uptake. We know there will be a stampede at the end of the month,” said an official from 2Kings Entertainment.

“Winky D has promised to rope in exciting supporting acts and it promises to be a good show. It will be a good way to start the year for us after two successful years of hosting big events.

“We are glad to be involved in the launch and we will do our best to deliver a top class launch. Gombwe” will feature Jamaican star Beenie Man and it will be Winky D’s 11th album. Ninja President, as Winky D is popularly known, has been on top of his game over the past years and managed to shrug off competition from many promising Zimdancehall star.

He has remained the revered king of the genre mainly due to the way he safeguards his brand. The musician will also be celebrating his achievement following an exceptional run of 2017 that saw him scooping two top accolades on Coca Cola ZTV Top 50 Videos chart. People are anxious to see if the Ninja President will keep the momentum in 2018.
