SEVERAL top amateur golf players took to the field in the Harare Amateur Championships at Police Club yesterday.
The three-day four round event is one of the 20 major tournaments in which amateurs take part throughout the season. The tournament comes barely a week after the other top tournament, the Champion of Champions, was held at Warren Hills last weekend.
United States-based golfer, Scott Vincent, will return to the fold after missing out last week and the top player, who is on vacation, remains a top contender.
Vincent won the Chapman Grand Slam on his return last month and may improve on his standings on the order of merit where he was on position 11 going into this tourney.

Ray Badenhoist is also back home for vacation so is Bret Krog.
The event will also see Clive Nguru, who won the last event, facing off with seasonal rivals Ben Follet-Smith, Biggie Chibvuri, Christian Mbanga among several others.

Zimbabwe Golf Association vice-president, Boniface Chigorimbo, said all was in place for the event and most golfers were ready for the challenge.
“The three-day four-round tournament teed off at Gunhill-based Police Golf Course yesterday with the order of merit standings being the main issue.
“The amateur tournaments have improved this season and most of the players did very well.

“The tournament is divided into four categories with the Championship, A, B dnd C Divisions.
“The championship Division will have players with zero to six handicap with the seven to 12 handicap falling in the B Division, 13 to 18 will be in the C Division,” he said.
