Local celebrities, fashionistas and music stars will tomorrow have a date at Zimbali Events and Lifestyle Centre in Greendale, Harare, for the inaugural Star FM Music Awards ceremony.
The glitz and glamour themed awards show will be hosted by United States of America-based Zimbabwean born comedian Alfred Kainga.
Kainga has built an impressive resume both locally and internationally, headlining at top comedy clubs like The Improve in Los Angeles.
He also toured with popular US comedian Kevin Hart.
In an interview, Zimpapers Radio Broadcasting Services Division general manager Comfort Mbofana said all was set for the inaugural awards show.
“As Star FM, we are excited to celebrate local talent making waves in the diaspora,” he said. “The statuettes are now in place, with winners’ names printed already on the plaques.”
Mbofana said the event will see new local artists taking centre stage as they perform ahead of seasoned artists.
“There is a lot of excitement from the fans, musicians and corporates,” he said.
The entertainment line-up includes new artists such as Lloyd Souls, Enzo Ishal, Novuyo Seagirl, Tamy Moyo and Asaph, while on the list of DJs there is Reverb 7 and Tamuka on the turntables.
“Seasoned artists like Ammara Brown, Prudence Katomeni Mbofana, and Willis Wataffi among others will also have to prove their mantle.”
Mbofana said the event starts off with a red carpet affair which will be hosted by Nonhlanhla Tutani, affectionately known as Miss V Candy.
“The actual awards start promptly at 7pm and guests are encouraged to stick to the dress code of glitz and glamour, with a touch of African,” he said.
“It is a closed event, hence strictly by invite. For those who will be at home we will be live streaming the awards on the Star FM Facebook page, as well as the ZTN website.”
Mbofana said the awards night will honour the late music legend Dr Oliver Mtukudzi and late mbira maestro Chiwoniso Maraire with posthumous Lifetime Achievement Awards.
