The Air Force of Zimbabwe has commenced construction of Murongwe Secondary School in Mukumbura, a life changing development for the community. This followed the completion of the primary school and clinic commissioned by President Mugabe last year. The target is to complete construction of the school in two years. A vocational training centre will be built as well.

The state-of-the-art secondary school will also house a science laboratory, weather station, tennis and basketball courts, workshops, library and a chapel, among other modern facilities.

Speaking to The Herald, the local legislator, who is also the Deputy Minister for Small to Medium Enterprises and Cooperative Development Cde Noveti Muponora described the construction of Murongwe Secondary School as a welcome development for the community.

“I should start by congratulating our Zimbabwe Defence Forces on their 37th anniversary coming in the next few days,” he said.

“The Murongwe project is handy and it is a very big project in our constituency as it is benefiting our children, who have been traveling long distances to access better education.

“We appreciate this good work being undertaken in our community by President Mugabe through the Air Force of Zimbabwe.

“The school is not only benefiting our constituency but even the surrounding communities and I must say Murongwe is now a hub of education.”

Cde Muponora explained that the Murongwe project was the brainchild of AFZ Commander Air Marshal Perrence Shiri, who was touched by the plight of children who were learning in pole and dagga classrooms.

“Air Marshal Shiri who once operated here during the liberation struggle was touched by the plight of the children at that school and decided to build a modern school,” he said.

“He mobilised the resources and formed a trust that handles the finances of the project.

“The project started with the construction of an Early Childhood Development block and other blocks for Grade One up to Grade Seven and staff quarters. They have now started the construction of the secondary school and we feel very soon it will be operational.

“After the secondary school they are also going to build a vocational training centre. As a community and constituency we are very happy and appreciate these progressive projects taking place in our locality.”

Cde Muponora said the primary school, which enrols 700 pupils was equipped with state-of-the-art computers.

It has tap water and electricity.

There is unlimited wifi for pupils as well.

A civil military relations storesman from the Air Force of Zimbabwe Luke Nyambira told The Herald: “This first block we are working on has four classes and right now we are waiting for some equipment that is coming from Harare.

‘’The community is currently collecting quarry stones and providing bricks, while we wait for the other materials that we expect soon.”
