Successes in fighting STIs maintained despite Covid-19

Zimbabwe has maintained successes recorded in sexual reproductive health despite the effects of Covid-19.

Government says targets in the fight against HIV have been met, there has been no spike in sexually transmitted diseases and family planning methods are being effectively prescribed on the population.

Acting District Medical Officer for Mutoko, Dr Prince Mangwiro, said preserving such successes has been achieved through the uptake of reproductive health services.

“In terms of STIs, there have been no changes compared to previous years,” he said. “I think this has been made possible because of the equipment given by Population Services Zimbabwe (PSZ).

“Services are still being offered to those with STIs, we have reached out to people through outreaches where people get their family planning services, as well as some getting their condoms.”

Dr Mangwiro said despite an all-out response to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, all other ailments related to reproductive health were still being taken care of, with early treatment behavior being encouraged.
