Airzim relaunches flight Air Zimbabwe

Air Zimbabwe has relaunched a three-times-a-week flight between Harare, Kariba and Victoria Falls expected to enhance connectivity and boost tourism.
Speaking after the relaunch in Harare last Friday, Airzim acting chief executive Mr Edmund Makona said the flight would enhance connectivity between Victoria Falls and Kariba.

“We were motivated and it is within the context of the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim-Asset). We saw it fit to utilise all the assets Air Zimbabwe has and the MA60 has been lying idle for some time and it can play a huge role on the route,” he said.

“It is in Zim Asset that aviation becomes a catalyst for socio and economic development. There is no other way of reinvigorating Kariba other than availing the flight. We believe Kariba has been a dying town and connectivity will bring prosperity to Kariba.”

Mr Makona said the flight would enhance domestic tourism and promote fishing and other activities in Kariba.

“We are bringing aviation to the doorstep of every Zimbabwean and it is within that, hence linking Victoria Falls and Kariba as well,” he said.

There is no easy connectivity between Kariba and Victoria Falls by road.

“We will increase the frequency of flights if there is an increase in demand. We will continuously review those fares but we want it to be accessible to everyone as the passengers respond to our launch. The flight will frequent the route thrice to and fro every week. It will allow tourists from one of the seven wonders of the ancient world with the Nyaminyami and fishing activities in Kariba,” said Mr Makona.
