More than 800 families at Clipsham Farm, on the outskirts of Masvingo City, are facing eviction to pave way for the expansion of the country’s oldest town.

Clipsham Farm, located south east of the city along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Highway, is one of the remaining peri-urban farms in Masvingo that is reserved for the future expansion of the city.

Hundreds of land hungry people occupied the farm at the turn of the millennium and some of them have since built permanent houses. Masvingo provincial administrator Mr Fungai Mbetsa said there was no going back on plans to evict the families from the farm. He said the agreement between the families and Government was for them to venture into peri-urban farming activities on a temporary basis.

‘’There are no two ways about the issue of eviction because the families are occupying State land that is earmarked for the future expansion of Masvingo,” said Mr Mbetsa.
