An additional $600 million is needed for the completion of the first phase of the Siakobvu Government Complex along the Kariba-Binga highway.

Work on the outside walls has been completed with the contractor, the Public Works Department, now racing against time to meet the June 30 deadline for completion of the first phase, and that needs roofing, ceilings, partitions and window glass.

Building resumed in June 2021 after stalling in 2004.

Comprising three double story office blocks with up to 45 offices each, the project is being implemented in phases.

Mashonaland West provincial Public Works director Engineer Trust Mutizwa said work was progressing smoothly and deadlines set were being met.

“Generally we are on course and we will deliver on the expected dates provided we get the additional funding we applied for from Treasury, amounting to $600 million,” said Eng Mutizwa.

“(For the) Second Phase, we need about a year-and-a-half to complete the blocks.”

Outstanding works include roofing, tiling, dry wall partitioning, suspended ceiling, painting and glazing, lighting, civil works, car parks and access roads.

People from areas such as Mola, Nengande, Musambakaruma and Nebiri have been hired to work on the building.

Nyaminyami Rural District Council chairperson, Councillor Golden Chirongoma said the development ties well with development aspirations.

With work also underway on improving access to the area through upgrading of the Karoi-Binga Road, Siakobvu and surrounding areas are expected to see rapid development.

“We welcome construction of the Government complex and the services that will come to our area,” said Clr Chirongoma.”

The District Development Fund is now expected to drill boreholes for the small Siakobvu town as siting and procurement of accessories has already been done.
