$1k independence boost Mr Mbetsa

Masvingo Bureau
Masvingo City Council has agreed to channel a sum of $1 200 from its coffers towards the 38th independence bash.

Preparations for this year’s independence celebrations pencilled for Mucheke Stadium have gathered momentum, according to the State Occasions Committee.

Cumulatively, Masvingo province has managed to mobilise in excess of $7 000 for the event.

Hordes of Mucheke residents were this week absorbed by the splendid decorations done to the stadium in preparation of the celebrations.

The local authority’s management and councillors have since resolved to support the national event.

According to minutes of the Finance and General Purposes Committee meeting held on March 18, 2019 and adopted by the full council meeting on Monday, the local authority would release $800 for the provincial celebrations and $400 for the Masvingo district celebrations.

“It was resolved that the City Treasurer be instructed to process donations amounting to $800 for the provincial independence celebrations and $400 for the district independence celebrations to be held on April 18, 2019,” read the minutes.

The provincial administrator Mr Fungai Mbetsa, who is also the chairperson for the State Occasions Committee, recently urged people to come in numbers for this year’s celebrations, irrespective of their race, colour, creed or political affiliation.
