Five armed robbers on Monday raided a filling station in Warren Park and got away with cash amounting to $15 000, police said yesterday. Police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba, said the robbers tied two filling station employees who were resting in a vehicle parked at the premises before stealing the money.“On 15 August 2016, five unknown accused persons approached a service station in Warren Park Harare,” she said.

“They pounced on two service station employees who had taken a rest in a Toyota Raum, which was parked at the premises. The accused persons tied the complainants together and three of them proceeded to a built-in safe which they broke and took away $2 500 while the other two remained guarding the complainants. The accused persons went on to ransack the building and stole a bigger safe, which they later dumped after retrieving the money. Total value stolen is $15 000.”

Snr Asst Comm Charamba said in another related incident, on the same date, a taxi driver was attacked by three unknown assailants.

“A taxi driver was hired by three accused persons from Harare Central Business District purporting to be going to Mabelreign,” she said.

“While on the way, complainant was grabbed by the neck from behind as others searched after gagging him. They then pushed him out of his car, which they drove away leaving him stranded. In yet another incident, a man was attacked by a gang of five accused persons who robbed him of cash and valuables worth $631, while the other one was attacked along a footpath in Ushewokunze Waterfalls where he was robbed of $250 by three accused persons who misrepresented that they were members of the Central Intelligence Organisation.

Snr Asst Comm Charamba urged the public not to keep large sums of money at their business premises or homes as they risked being robbed.
